In a break with recent tradition, First Selectman Tim Herbst will deliver his State of the Town Address April 8 at 7 p.m. at Frenchtown School. For the past several years, the speech has been held at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting.

Herbst said the time change would allow more members of the public to attend. He said the invitation list already included more than 100 town employees and school officials.

The traditional Chamber of Commerce business breakfast will take place March 31 at 8 a.m. at the Trumbull Marriott and will include economic development news.

"I want the public there because there is a lot of ground to cover and a lot of good things happening that I want people to know about," Herbst said.

Topics he intends to cover in the State of the Town include the administration's plans for increased public safety and education programs.

The forthcoming improvements at the Westfield mall and Trumbull Center and the potential establishment of a design district around Long Hill Green are also topics he intends to address with residents and business leaders.
